Juan Emilio "Llonsi" Martinez and Marcelo Matos

These meetings have the peculiarity of having in the same space the youthful energy of Marcelo Matos, who has grown up seeing how his father -Tito Matos- shared his knowledge. Marcelo has managed to emulate part of that teaching technique and together with Llonsi's experience they ensure a fun and enriching experience.


Plenary workshop 
with Emanuel Santana

The workshops that Emanuel offers are based on his experiences in the plenary session, where he has had the privilege to share with many of the best teachers of the tradition. Information about singing, percussion, history and dance is transmitted. This workshop aims to be as comprehensive as possible for an efficient full training.

 

Guiro workshop with Cándido Reyes

Cándido Reyes, also known as “El Rey Del Güiro”, shares his extensive knowledge about the vegetal instrument applying his technique to countless genres in which he has stood out as one of the most important references in the history of the Puerto Rican staff.

Pump workshop with Victor “Vitito” Emmanuelli

The influential percussionist and virtuoso of the bomba barrel, our national drummer demonstrates his excellent pedagogical capacity with calm and efficiency, achieving an evident development in those who enjoy his vast knowledge. This workshop emphasizes both technique and the provenance of current trends in pumping.

 

Bomba dance workshop with Lionel Villahermosa

The versatility and experience of Lionel Villahermosa is presented in this space full of knowledge where information about our ancestral traditional dance is passed on while promoting movement creativity.

 
 

Exhibition

In 2015 Matos created in a storefront location, La Junta (The Board), a cultural center where he taught plena to the community. Destroyed in 2017 by Hurricane Maria, it was reborn in May of 2021 when he curated La Casa De la Plena (The House of Plena), a historical exhibition at the Taller Comunidad La Goyco, in the Calle Loíza of his hometown of Santurce.

Here the exhibition houses the personal collection of videos, records, photos, tapes, writings, and ephemera on plena of the noted historian and cultural anthropologist Dr. Ramón Lopez.
